Description
Award winning designer Shah Gilani, ISFD, saw a rusty dockside mooring bollard which inspired him to design the Bollard Dining Table Base. He attached three massive metal rings which are found at maritime locations to the side of the table. At the dockside these bollards serve as anchor points for mooring lines to be attached to in order to secure a vessel. They are usually short posts on a quay or jetty. Made of solid metal and being well grounded they are capable of enduring tremendous stresses. The Bollard Dining Table Base is a massive pedestal that inspires strength. It can support a heavy glass top up to 72″ in diameter without flexing. Mooring bollards have an interesting history. As early as the 17th century old cannon were often used as bollards on quaysides to help moor ships alongside. Bollards after the 19th century were purpose-made but often inherited a very similar “cannon” shape. The Bollard Dining Table Base is entirely handmade of bonded wood and metal. A “block” of bonded wood is turned by hand on a massive old-world wood lathe to get the circular shape. The plinth and rings are cast metal. This unique table base is offered in a wide variety of finishes and accents. Custom sizing is available.
