Parsons Copper or Brass Dining Table has an interesting background. While Jean-Michel Frank was teaching at the Paris branch of the Parsons School of Design in the 1930s, he challenged his students to design a table so basic that it would retain its integrity whether sheathed in gold leaf, mica, parchment, split straw or painted burlap, or even left robustly unvarnished. What grew out of Frank’s sketches and the students’ participation was initially called the T-Square Table because the relationship between the leg and the top was the same as the two perpendicular arms of the T-square drafting tool. It has been described as a modernist square or rectangular table whose four legs are square in cross-section and equal in thickness to the table top. The 1930s were known as the era of “Moderne” and for the blend of Modernism and Art Deco. With this background as inspiration, Shah Gilani, ISFD, designed his Parsons Table using lightly distressed and antiqued copper or brass sheet. The top is 2 1/2″ thick and the legs have the same sized cross-section. Heavy 18 gauge copper or brass sheet is used to construct this exquisite table. The Parsons Copper or Brass Dining Table is a robust handcrafted product that will not disappoint. Custom sizing is available.
