The design of the Parisian Etagere with Sparrow Detail was inspired by the work of Diego Giacometti (1902-1985). Diego was a Swiss sculptor and designer, and the younger brother of sculptor Alberto Giacometti. After business studies in Basel and Saint-Gall he followed his mother Annetta’s advice and went to Paris to join his brother Alberto, then a student of the sculptor Antoine Bourdelle at the Academy of the Grande Chaumière. The working relationship of Diego with Alberto was so close that it is sometimes difficult to distinguish the work of Diego from that of Alberto. Diego often adorned his furniture with animal sculptures. Perhaps he was deeply influenced by his upbringing on the family farm in the rugged alpine region of Bregaglia in Switzerland. The sparrow accent on this etagere is a salute to Diego. His furniture often had a wonderfully organic surface texture which has been reproduced on the Parisian Etagere. It is done by a casting process. Molten metal is poured into a mold which can be used only once. The rough casting is painstakingly smoothed by a master craftsman. This is a long and laborious task requiring great skill and attention to detail. With its European style timeless elegance, this unique etagere is guaranteed to be a source of visual gratification. An etagere may be used for displaying objets d’art, rare collectibles, or fine books. Robust metal construction allows this etagere to support five thick glass shelves without flexing. Four polished bronze glides are provided which also serve as levelers – a useful feature to have when the floor is uneven. This exquisite piece of furniture is offered in a variety of finishes. We are able to design and manufacture etageres ranging in style from traditional through art nouveau and art deco, to modern and contemporary. One of the special services we offer is the ability to customize our product to fit the client’s specification. Drawings are made and finish samples prepared for client approval. Custom work is our specialty.
