Shah Gilani, ISFD, was inspired by the art of Florentine Renaissance while designing the Arno Wall Light. Renaissance was the cultural rebirth that occurred in Europe from roughly the fourteenth through the middle of the seventeenth century. The movement was based on the rediscovery of the literature of ancient Greece and Rome. Renaissance style in art, portrayed in works of Florentine artists, flourished largely because of the patronage of wealthy citizens and the church. By purchasing numerous works of art during this period, citizens with means provided a livelihood for many painters, sculptors, furniture makers, and architects. The movement was fueled by the desire to imitate and revive the beauty of ancient Greece, and to have that beauty surround art lovers in their daily lives. The Arno Wall Light is named for the river that flows through Florence. It passes below the Ponte Vecchio and the Santa Trìnita bridge, which was built by Bartolomeo Ammanati but inspired by Michelangelo. Constructed of wood and metal, this exquisite two-arm light is offered in a variety of finishes and accents. The wood carving is done entirely by hand. Superb attention to detail is evident from the polished bronze rims on the hand-blown seeded glass hurricane shades. Custom sizing is available.
