Furniture of the Art Deco period was the source of inspiration for the Ellipsoids Lamp Table. Art Deco was an influential visual arts design style that first appeared in France just before World War I and began flourishing internationally from the 1920s thru the 40s. It took its name from the Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes (International Exposition of Modern Decorative and Industrial Arts) held in Paris in 1925. The event was conceived as a celebration of modernity, bringing together the industrial and the artistic. Huge international crowds visited the 150 or so pavilions. The result was the spread of Art Deco across the world. Art Deco is an eclectic style that combines traditional craft motifs with Machine Age imagery and materials. The style is often characterized by rich colors and bold geometric shapes. The style has been defined as assertively modern emphasizing symmetry rather than asymmetry. During its heyday, Art Deco represented luxury, glamour, exuberance, and faith in social and technological progress. The Ellipsoid Lamp Table aptly represents this new movement that swept away the fussy ornamentation of previous centuries, replacing it with a simplicity of line influenced by the shape of machine-made objects. This is a unique side table designed for use in upscale residential and hospitality interiors. It is offered in a variety of finishes and accents. Robust metal construction allows the base to support the heaviest table top without flexing. Four polished bronze glides are provided which also serve as levelers – a useful feature to have when the floor is uneven. The Ellipsoids Lamp Table was designed by Shah Gilani, ISFD.
