George Washington Bridge Console

As the name suggests, the George Washington Bridge Console was inspired by the monumental bridge over the Hudson in the great city of New York. It was commissioned by the Port of New York Authority in 1927 and was nicknamed the Hudson River Bridge. Later the residents of New York and New Jersey voted for its current name in 1931. It was opened to the public the same year. When civil engineer Othmar Ammann designed the bridge, it was the longest suspension bridge in the world. To honor the engineering feat that it represented, a postage stamp with its picture was issued at the time of its opening. The designer of this famous bridge, Othmar Ammann, was slight in stature with a quiet demeanor that hid a steely core. He was a graduate of the Swiss Institute of Technology considered to be one of the most prestigious in the world. Shah Gilani, ISFD, was inspired by Ammann’s design of the towers of this suspension bridge which are more like works of art. One of the special services we offer is the ability to customize our product to fit the client’s specification. Drawings are made and finish samples prepared for client approval.
