Klismos Dining Table

Description

Design of the Klismos Dining Table was inspired by klismos of ancient Greece which was an elegant chair with curved legs and back. Even though no furniture from ancient Greece has survived, Greek artwork, such as pottery decorations and friezes, depict daily life in Greek homes of the time. This has given us an accurate idea of early Greek furniture design. Most chairs in ancient Greece had hard stiff backs and arms. Even the people depicted in paintings and friezes sitting in this type of chair look as though they are uncomfortable. The klismos was an entirely new type of chair conceived by the ancient Greeks. It’s design was smooth and flowing. This unique chair was made with delicately curved back and legs and was used principally by women. The leg design of the Klismos Dining Table was inspired by the curved legs of the ancient klismos. Its steel construction ensures sturdiness even under a heavy load of a thick glass, copper, or brass top. Rivet heads on the apron are polished bronze. Four polished bronze glides are provided which also serve as levelers – a useful feature to have when the floor is uneven. The Klismos Dining Table Base is offered in a variety of finishes.
