Diego Bar Chair

Description

The design of the Diego Bar Chair was inspired by the work of Diego Giacometti (1902-1985). Diego was a Swiss sculptor and furniture designer, and the younger brother of sculptor Alberto Giacometti. After business studies in Basel and Saint-Gall, he followed the advice of his mother Annetta and went to Paris to join his brother Alberto, then a student of the sculptor Antoine Bourdelle at the Academy of the Grande Chaumière. The working relationship of Diego with Alberto was so close that it is sometimes difficult to distinguish the work of Diego from that of Alberto.

The Diego Bar Chair, which is also available as a counter height chair, is made by a casting process. Molten bronze is poured into a mold that can be used only once. The rough casting is then painstakingly smoothed by a skilled craftsman. This is a long and laborious task requiring great attention to detail so as not to destroy the organic surface texture. The final product is patinated with the help of reagents. Robust metal construction ensures stability under the heaviest of loads. The seat is mounted on a memory swivel mechanism which brings it back to face-forward position after use. The seat cushion has 8-way hand-tied springs which will not sag even after decades of use. Standard upholstery is black, brown, or cream saddle-stitched leather. We also offer upholstery in COM.
