Klismos Bench

Description

Design inspiration for the Klismos Bench came from ancient Greek furnishings, specifically the klismos, an elegant Greek chair with curved legs. Even though almost no furniture has survived the centuries, ancient Greek artwork such as pottery decorations and friezes depict daily life in Greek homes. This has given us an accurate idea of early Greek furniture design. Chairs in ancient Greece had hard stiff backs and arms. Even the people depicted in paintings and friezes sitting in this type of chair look like they are uncomfortable. The klismos was an entirely new type of chair designed by the Greeks. It’s design was smooth and flowing. This unique chair was made with delicately curved back and legs and was used principally by women.

Robust metal construction of the Klismos Bench ensures sturdiness, even under heavy loads. The bench is offered in a variety of finishes. Seat cushion has 8-way hand-tied springs. Upholstery is in COM. Custom sizing is available. The Klismos Bench was designed by Shah Gilani, ISFD.

Ours is an artisanal product made in a traditional and non-mechanized way. We are able to design and manufacture seating ranging in style from traditional through art nouveau and art deco, to modern and contemporary. One of the special services we offer is the ability to customize our product to fit the client’s specification. Drawings are made and finish samples prepared for client approval. Custom work is our specialty.
